5-20.    JESSE5 CLAYSON (STEPHEN4, WILLIAM3, JOHN2, WILLIAM1) was born 29 Dec 1870 in St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe, Kent. Christened 26 Feb 1871 and died 14 Feb 1947 in St Margaret’s, Kent.  He married LILIAN MARGARET LUCK 23 Oct 1895 in St Stephens Church, Tonbridge, Kent, daughter of LEONARD LEVI LUCK and MARTHA MAYNARD.  She was born 31 Mar 1875 in Station Square, Tonbridge, Kent, and died 01 Mar 1948 in St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe, Kent.  NB – The family of JESSE CLAYSON were village builders, carpenters and undertakers in St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe.. Jesse was originally a carrier on his own account but lost his business and worked as an employee, originally with horses and then with a lorry. On his marriage certificate, his occupation is given as Coachman and he was living in St Margaret’s-at-Cliffe, Kent. In the 1891 census, he was described as a groom. He was a quiet gentle man.   NBB- LILLIAN MARGARET LUCK: Lillian was born in Station Square, Tonbridge. At the time of her wedding, she was living at 46 Priory Road, Tonbridge. Lillian was the driving force in her marriage. She set up a tea-room in a Kentish traditional tarred clapboard house opposite Portal House during WW1 to serve soldiers. She sold sweets and cigarettes and took in summer visitors. She extended the capacity by erecting three or four wooden huts in the large back garden. Heather Margaret Hills was born in one of these huts. Lillian stayed in the tea-rooms until about 1937. In the inter war years her Grandson, John George Hills was a frequent visitor. Lillian died in St Margaret’s, living with Ron and Freda Jones, in 1948.

6-48.     VIOLET MILDRED6 CLAYSON (JESSE5, STEPHEN4, WILLIAM3, JOHN2, WILLIAM1) was born 05 Feb 1903 in St. Margaret’s-at-Cliffe, Kent, and died 18 Jul 1991 in Ashington, West Sussex.  She married JOHN HENRY FENWICK HILLS 02 Oct 1922 in St Margaret at Cliff, Kent, son of JOHN HILLS and REBECCA ROBERTS.  He was born 27 Jul 1897 in Dover, Kent, and died 29 Oct 1963.
