1-1.    DAVID MAXWELL b.abt. 1766.  Lieutenant of the 75th Regiment.  Married ANN PARK.  Died 1835. NB In David Maxwell’s will, he was owed rent from WALTER SCOON, blacksmith of Langholm and Agnes’ grandfather-in-law.  There is also a RICHARD JOHNSTONE, blacksmith and WILLIAM JOHNSTONE, joiner.  The only heir mentioned is JOHN MAXWELL Esq.  Census note- Ramsay Lockhart (female) relative living with the same John Maxwell from the will.  Possibly David was father of Thomas and John.  Agnes “Johnstone” Murray was Thomas Maxwell’s (the blacksmith) granddaughter, and Thomas Maxwell’s father was David Maxwell from his death certificate.

NB Thomas was a master blacksmith at Milton of Urr.  NB Agnes’s Father was JOHN JOHNSTON of Urr, Kirkudbrightshire.  On the census they had two nephews visiting them James Johnston b. 1828, and William Rae  and niece Agnes Campbell.

3-2.      ISOBELLA MAXWELL b. 2 April 1837 Urr, Kirkcudbright. Died 4 Feb 1881 at East Howcreek, Cummertrees, of liver disease.  Married 9 July 1858 at Milton of Urr Kirkcudbright to JOHN MURRAY b. abt. 1826-32 at Cummertrees, living at Priestside.  NB On the 1861 census they are living at Glensone, New Abbey, Kirkcudbright.  John was a road maker and Isabella was a housekeeper.  By 1871, they had moved in with John’s father JAMES MURRAY and were living at East Woncuck, Cummertrees.   On the 1881 Census, John was living at East Howcreek, Cummertrees, Dumfries.  He is listed the Head, a farmer of 130 Acres, Widower at this time and aged 53.  Daughter AGNES JOHNSTON MURRAY (now) LOCKHART was visiting them.  In 1891 census, John is living at East Howcreek with sons James and William Rae.  They had three servants.
